Championing
New Voices

Over the past decade, Chippy Lane has become known for nurturing emerging talent, championing female and non-binary writers through the Welsh Female Writers’ Programme, and building community through live performances, podcasts and scratch nights. The company is a non-profit supported by Arts Council Wales and The Carne Trust.

The Guardian

“Chippy Lane Productions might not be a common name on theatre-goers’ tongues, but this is evidence it might soon be.”

The Arts Desk

“Rebecca is pioneering opportunities for women writers from Wales to champion their abilities and break through the boundaries and stereotypes of writing they have previously been confined.”

Blue

Written by Rhys Warrington and directed by Chelsey Gillard, Blue was CLP’s first original commission — a sell-out run at Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff, that drew national critical attention.

“Smart and superbly acted.”

The Guardian

★★★★

“If Chippy Lane’s second production was to be summed up in one word, that word would almost certainly be ‘love’. Both on- and off-stage, love permeates through every nook and cranny.”

Wales Arts Review

“BLUE is a strong, poignant work, supported by a lucid insight on human behaviour, a writing that is empathetic without becoming didascalic, and a series of careful, detailed character studies.”

Arts Scene in Wales

“There is a lot to admire in Blue, much of it familiar, especially to Welsh audiences. Blue isn’t completely perfect and I’m glad for that, because it means that this is a writer with space to grow, to improve. That is a very pleasing prospect for the future of Welsh drama.”

Right Where We Left Us

Written by Rebecca Jade Hammond and directed by Chelsey Gillard, this pandemic-born three-hander was performed by two alternating casts at Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff. The play was subsequently published by Methuen Drama.

“Right Where We Left Us is the perfect exploration of what happens after, or instead of, happy ever after. A sobering moment in a play which takes its audience on a carousel of emotions, with an intensity that stays with you for some time after the lights have dimmed.”

Wales Arts Review

“A rollercoaster in itself, with its dramatic waves of intense emotion followed by cathartic humour.”
