Joanie is forty, perimenopausal, and supposed to be a mother by now. Three years after losing her husband, she exists in a strange in-between — no longer wife, not quite herself. When a dating app produces Pete, six months of late-night messages become confessions, flirtation, something that feels dangerously like coming back to life. Now they're in a hotel room. And the gap between screen and skin feels impossible to cross. Until he tells her the truth.
Second Star is a play about two people hollowed out by loss, learning what it means to be filled again. About bodies that feel like betrayal. About the terror and miracle of being truly seen after years of invisibility. About whether desire can coexist with grief — or whether joy after tragedy makes us somehow less faithful to what we've survived.
